Can water REALLY affect my hair?

Yes, unfortunately numerous studies have found that hard water can be detrimental to hair health.

One 2016 study that involved 15 women showed that hard water decreased hair thickness compared to hair washed with distilled water.

Another 2018 study that involved over 70 men definitively concluded that “hard water decreases strength of hair and thus increases breakage.”

Why else is a water analysis important for my health?

In a recent finding from the Environmental Working Group, there are over 18 contaminants found in the El Paso Water Utilities. These contaminants include chloroform (El Paso’s water is 10x over the EWG’s recommended limit) and arsenic (El Paso’s water contains over 1100x the recommended limit), which are both linked to causing cancer.

That study also references other more concerning contaminants which are PFAs, which stands for poly-fluoroalkyl substances.

These substances are long-lasting chemicals that take years to break down and have been permeated through drinking water and soil (according to the CDC’s Agency of Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.) In fact, the CDC has also identified a site in Lubbock County that is a known source of PFAs, which has resulted in people living there having a 4x higher level than the national average.
